Though I admit to first having read it as Smitten Kitten, a phrase I did not hear until three months ago and now hear all the time, it is in fact Smitten Kitchen, and even before I read the very sassy writing, was captivated by the photo, one of which I've stolen, there on the left. Yummy, good-looking, smart, what's not to like?
Okay, speaking of food: I was drinking last night with two chefs, when one asked, "So, where are you going to eat in New York?" And did I feel like a dolt when I answered, "Uh, I don't know..." I did, though not so much that I didn't ask where they thought I should eat. The answers: Babbo (been there, twice); Prune (read reviews; sounds great); Yakitori Totto, and any restaurant run by Danny Chang, including Momofuku. And I'd really love to, except my best friend, with whom I always dine when I'm in the city, is in New Orleans. And my other constant dining companion is under the weather, and will probably not want more than take-out soup. And my husband just flew this morning to Brazil. Which means, I'm either eating alone or...
Suggestions?
David Chang......and this just opened

I love Gramercy Tavern and they have an actual tavern part and you could eat at the bar alone.
These have been getting rave reviews although I'm not sure if you're in nyc that long.

I had a lot of fun eating alone in SF in August. I say go for it. Too much good food in NYC not to.

I would go to Tom Tuesday in a heartbeat! But they don't have one on the 18th, and I'll be home by the 25th. Crap. And not only because I have a crush on Tom Colicchio. Am I the only one? When I mentioned to my husband and daughter I thought he was sexy, they looked at me as though I'd just I found Karl Rove hot.
Yes, I am for sure going to the bakery, and I don't mind eating alone. Or going to the movies alone, which I am actually going to do tonight.

I would definitely go to Prune. Was there a few years ago and still hear/read good things about it. Cute space, too. I also would love to try the Spotted Pig. I hear chef April Bloomfield is doing amazing things.

Don't forget Brooklyn! The farm to table movement has really taken hold here. Marlow & Son, Dressler, Flatbush Farm, Frankie's 457, Grocery and lots of others feature local purveyors in their seasonal menus.
