Three for today:
A Detailed Man, David Swinson's crime novel about a DC detective with a half-frozen face and a few too many people he knows dying brutally. Download it for free through midnight tomorrow.
"The Autumn of Joan Didion," Caitlin Flanagan's (to me) spot-on essay about what Didion does best, and worst. Essay at Atlantic.com. Eager to read Flanagan's new book, Girl Land.
Come hear me read from The Bad Mother, this Sunday, when the incomprable Pascal Sauton will throw a Dinner with the Author event, at his really smashingly gorgeous new spot. Food, wine, a little reading, my handsome husband. Come! Details here, and yes, so reserve.
And speaking of downloads: The Queens of Montague Street, 99-cents kids. Digital only... for now.
I'm going to wait for the entire book. Montague Street was my hangout in the 70's and early 80's. Haven't been there since it's got infested with the scarf-wearing Calebs and Zooeys.
I remember the Blimpie's and the Italian restaurant (both between (Clinton and Henry Sts) and a vintage books store that for ages had first comic book ever published hanging in the window (Tip Top comics!)
I truly miss the old Brooklyn. Now it's turned into a "Westworld" for hipsters.
(BTW - why do they wear scarfs and ski caps when it's 95 degrees out? anyone? Anyone?Bueller?)
